As the Death bard shirt But I will love this night came to a close, Ashley invited attendees to a book signing event. But before that, he generously imparted valuable home decor advice from his father, stating firmly, “Photographs of people? Absolutely not—only in the bedroom.” Tanya Taylor is a designer known for painting many of her brand’s whimsical, color-filled prints—so it made perfect sense that she’d want to celebrate the new season doing that exactly. Last night, she hosted a night of painting at the West Village’s Westbeth Artists Community, and she invited all her friends (Huma Abedin, Alejandra Alonso Rojas, Noor Tagouri, Samantha Barry, Kimberly Drew) to join her. Founded in 1970, Westbeth Artists Community is a New York City landmark that provides affordable housing for artists and their families, with gallery spaces on the property. Upon arriving at the venue, attendees were met with a selection of Wölffer Wine, The Qi Rose Gin Lemonade, cocktails, and a plentiful grazing board. Artist Rachel Urkowitz, a resident at Westbeth, painted life-sized canvases alongside attendees enjoying live music by DJ Mark Holcomb to set the tone of the evening. “Westbeth has been a space that I have been coming to for 15 years since I moved to NYC. The courtyard is so peaceful and inspiring and felt like another world when I was a kid at Parsons and needed to find a special place in the city. Over 600 artists have lived and created here, so I thought hosting a painting class in a place with such incredible stories would inspire the inner artist in all of us,” Taylor told her guests, paintbrush in hand. In fact, the brand’s recent campaign was shot within the same artist community space.
Afterward, guests took their seats at the Death bard shirt But I will love this long table. Each spot featured a small easel, Tanya Taylor branded smocks and paint brushes, paints provided by Farrow and Ball, and an ornate sketch featuring each guest’s name. After taking their seats, Taylor guided guests through childhood memories, imagining the future and describing emotions through colors. By the end of the evening, partygoers left with their individual abstract art piece depicting their unique life experiences. On Monday, May 1st, the 2023 Met Gala will take place. This year’s Costume Institute exhibition, “Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty,” will celebrate the full work and life of Karl Lagerfeld. The dress code is, fittingly, “in honor of Karl.” As Lagerfeld designed for many houses—including his eponymous brand, Patou, Balmain, Chloé, Fendi, and Chanel—attendees will have no shortage of inspiration. Last year’s gala, which called for attendees to dress in “gilded glamor,” saw guests pay homage to a transformative era for America (notably, Blake Lively became a walking vision of patina glamor.) This year is sure to be a feast of memorable moments, too.
