The Smashing Pumpkins are an American alternative rock band formed in Chicago in 1988. The band consists of Billy Corgan (lead vocals, guitar), James Iha (guitar), D'arcy Wretzky (bass guitar), and Jimmy Chamberlin (drums). The Smashing Pumpkins rose to fame in the early 1990s with their second album, Siamese Dream (1993), which was a critical and commercial success. The album spawned the hit singles "Cherub Rock," "Today," and "Disarm."
The Smashing Pumpkins continued to release successful albums throughout the 1990s, including Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness (1995) and Adore (1998). However, the band went on hiatus in 2000 due to creative differences. The Smashing Pumpkins reunited in 2007 and have released two more albums since then, Zeitgeist (2007) and Oceania (2012).
