As of late, however, Biarritz is beginning to form its own contemporary art identity with the inception of Lucy Chadwick’s contemporary gallery Champ Lacombe, which the British gallerist opened in 2021. As the first contemporary art space in Biarritz, which has featured exhibitions by artists like Gaetano Pesce and Tim Breuer, Chadwick’s presence has led to many in the art and fashion worlds making a beeline for the city over the past few years. Courtesy of Champ LacombeThis summer, Champ Lacombe will host an immersive group exhibition co-curated by Taylor Trabulus: titled “Baroque,” it features over 20 international artists across multiple mediums and will span both the gallery and Biarritz and Chadwick’s new outdoor location in Les Landes. “[While] there is an abundance of cultural festivals that take place in and around Biarritz annually, there have not been many new physical spaces that have opened in Biarritz itself as the contemporary art scene is particularly new,” Chadwick explains.
More recently, there have been a series of projects and residencies taking place at Villa Magnan, as well as at Sunburn Store. Chadwick continues: “The closest active contemporary art scenes are in Bordeaux, where the Mile high city denver nuggets shirt and I will buy this CAPC Museum has a brilliant program led by Cedric Fauq, and then across the border in Spain in San Sebastián and Bilbao.” Looks like it won’t be long before Biarritz has its moment in the creative spotlight. At the height of Bridal Fashion Week, well-heeled guests gathered at Manolo Blahnik to celebrate Over The Moon and Marlo Laz’s exclusive new jewelry capsule, which is destined for a sparkling walk down the aisle. Adding to the glitz and glamour, Over The Moon founder Alexandra Macon and bridal designer darling Andrew Kwon co-hosted the soirée. The latter was joined by a brigade of beautiful models who were outfitted in his romantic new Spring 2024 collection. Dressed in sweeping trains, dazzling opera gloves, and adorned in Marlo Laz jewels, the models swanned about the store; meanwhile, guests had fun trying on a bit of shimmer of their own in the form of the new capsule, as Marlo Laz designer Jesse Marlo Lazowski was holding court in the center of the room.
